Generation Sage FAQs

Yes, Generation Sage is a registered 501-(C) 3 Non-Profit Organization.

I'd like to simply donate a backpack. How do I do that?

If you would like to make a backpack donation, please go to the Generation Sage homepage, scroll down to the donation section and proceed through the checkout.

How does Generation Sage work?

Generation Sage identifies communities where oppression, poverty and gender inequality plague women and girls.

We then cultivate a partnership with an established grass-roots organization or educational institution whose mission and initiatives correlate with those of Generation Sage.*All beneficiary organizations and schools have been visited and evaluated by Sage.

The girls who receive the Generation Sage backpack and school supplies receive them as part of a larger educational and empowerment initiative organized by our partners. These initiatives help create equal opportunities for girls to access an education, remain students, and ultimately reach they’re potential – initiating a larger social change within their communities.

Once Generation Sage has established their presence in a community through partnership with a local organization or school, we work to sustain our efforts indefinitely within that community. We recognize that a long-standing presence greatly impacts the potential outcome for the girls.

How did you decide a backpack and school supplies?

Our time spent on the ground researching allowed us to identify the 10 key barriers girls must over come in order to access education: Fees for tuition, transportation and distance to school, schoolbooks, essential supplies, uniforms, cultural biases-traditions that educate boys and keep girls at home to help with domestic work, the absenteeism of teachers, separate toilet facilities for privacy, sexual harassment or abuse by teachers and child marriage.

Our approach:was to find a tangible solution to one of these barriers, which could directly and indirectly impact a girl’s opportunity to be a student.

Where is my money and donation going?

Every backpack donated has a precise donation amount needed for the backpack and schools supplies to be manufactured, stocked and shipped to our partner organizations and placed on a girls shoulder.

How long does it take for a girl to receive her Generation backpack?

Once a Sage Aubrey Handbag has been registered or a Generation Sage Backpack has been donated, it generally takes a few months to disperse the backpacks and school supplies to our grass-root partners. The number of backpacks and supplies sent to each partner will be based on their individual needs.

How does Sage Aubrey donate to Generation Sage?

We created the Sage Aubrey registration program to measure our impact and share our results. And we did it because we believe that transparency and accountability are critical to our long-term impact.  Based on the handbag registrations Sage Aubrey donates money directly to Generation Sage, whom then distributes backpacks to the partner organizations.

Current Partnerships?

Our current beneficiary is Apne Aap Women Worldwide, a grass-roots organization who operates throughout India. Our goal is to donate 1,000 backpacks to all the girls in her action centers. Apne Aap operates within communities vulnerable to sex-trafficking and intergenerational prostitution. They build action centers within these vulnerable communities that help severely marginalized women and girls attain their basic human rights by: gaining independence through legal protection, education, livelihood and safe housing. Founder Ruchira Gupta is a pioneer in anti-sex trafficking and has been internationally recognized for her heroic efforts.

Future Partnerships:

Generation Sage is actively seeking grass-root partnerships globally and in the United States. Please feel free to contact us at if there is an organization you are working with or aware of that we should consider.

Is the Generation Sage Backpack donation a tax write off?

Yes! When you complete your donation on the Generation Sage website, you will have the opportunity to print your receipt with our tax identification number, this will allow you to use your donation as a tax write off.
