About Sage Aubrey
Born in 1982 to a single mother, Sage grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. Sage's journey into fashion began in high school when she started a women's accessory business with her mom and sister. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to study at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Sage left FIDM in her sophomore year to pursue a college education in business and marketing. Sage opened her first women's boutique at age 22, and quickly expanded her business to men's wear, pop-up stores, and an online shopping site. Sage was recognized as one of the top 30 under 30 entrepreneurs in Phoenix.
In 2009, after the downturn in the economy, Sage made the decision to close her retail businesses. During this challenging time, Sage picked up the book Half the Sky, Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. Her passion for helping women and girls was ignited. After reading the book for a second time, Sage had an Aha moment while researching the organizations associated with the book. “Donating wasn't tangible enough for me I wanted to meet these women, hear their stories and help find solutions.”
Fortuitously, Sage and her husband were relocating to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for his business. This gave her the opportunity to visit marginalized communities throughout Asia and work with local organizations to learn first hand the issues that are plaguing women and girls. “Throughout our time spent on the ground we continuously recognized that education proved to be the greatest weapon in eliminating gender based oppression.” It was clear that Sage's next journey would be dedicated to creating opportunity for girls who don't have the freedom and liberty to do so for them-selves.
Sage united her experience in fashion with her global philanthropic efforts to bring compassionate style to the contemporary fashion scene- so even the altruistic can look and feel chic while changing the world.
Our Social Responsibility
Our Non-Profit Organization Generation Sage is a global initiative with an ambitious goal: to create “Accessible Education For Every Girl.” We donate backpacks and school supplies to girls who are deprived of an education by the daily realities of poverty, violence and gender discrimination. Girls in our beneficiary classrooms receive this donation as part of a larger educational and empowerment initiative organized by our grass-root partners.
We created the Sage Aubrey Handbag Registration program to measure our impact and share our results. Every handbag comes with a registration card and unique code; by simply registering your handbag we will donate a Backpack and school supplies to a girl in a Generation Sage beneficiary classroom. Backpack by backpack, girl by girl, we report our progress – so you can see what we're doing, and what we've done to make a difference.
